The Los Molinos Interpretation Centre is housed in a traditional Majorera-style house, situated in the village of Tiscamanita, in the centre of Fuerteventura. Next to the museum is a fascinating restored windmill. At this Interpretation Centre, you can discover the whole culture that developed around gofio, a food that for centuries was the best ally in alleviating hunger on the island. A pleasant visit offering a journey through the history of the windmills and the chance to learn about the process of making authentic Canarian gofio.
Hear the sound of a hand-operated mill
As soon as you set foot in the museum, you hear a very curious noise coming from a hand-operated mill where the maize is ground. It is fascinating to observe how the traditional windmill works, built from stone, clay and lime, and to explore the mill complex, comprising a building, a tower and the machinery. The Los Molinos Interpretation Centre provides information on the various methods of obtaining flour from grain, as well as offering explanatory panels, diagrams and plans of different types of mills, which help visitors to better understand how they operate.
