Las Calderas

Las Calderas

Stunning volcanoes with spectacular views and pre-Hispanic archaeological remains, perfect for nature and history lovers.

What are the Calderas?

The Calderas are a group of volcanoes located in the north of Fuerteventura, forming part of a volcanic chain that stretches from Isla de Lobos to Montaña Colorada.

Trails with views

These volcanoes are circular in shape with deep craters, and were formed around 50,000 years ago. Some of the most notable volcanoes in the calderas are Calderón Hondo, Caldera Encantada and Caldera Rebanada. These volcanoes offer stunning views of the island’s volcanic landscape and can be visited via signposted trails starting from the village of Lajares.

Great geological interest

The calderas are a site of great geological, scenic and cultural interest, as archaeological remains from pre-Hispanic times can be found in the surrounding area, such as circular dry-stone structures that served as dwellings and livestock pens.
