Unamuno House Museum
This place offers a glimpse into the life of a famous writer in exile, featuring unique artefacts and a sculpture that pays tribute to his legacy.
The writer’s retreat in Fuerteventura
In the old Port of Cabras stands the house where Miguel de Unamuno was taken in following his exile in 1924 by Primo de Rivera. For almost half a year, he was able to travel around Fuerteventura and draw inspiration to capture its beauty in his articles and sonnets. In his museum, visitors can now admire the bourgeois style of a typical Majorera family home, which possessed items unaffordable to most, such as a phonograph or a typewriter.
The vivid sculpture of Unamuno
Admission is free, and the House Museum is open Monday to Friday; it is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It is easily accessible by car or on foot, and a sculpture of the intellectual stands at its entrance.
