La Ampuyenta
A journey into Fuerteventura’s past via a short walking tour of the village of La Ampuyenta, its charming rural surroundings and its historic buildings:
Casa Doctor Mena
Born in La Ampuyenta into a very humble Majorera family, the renowned Doctor Mena travelled the world in pursuit of his studies before settling back on the island and in the house in his home village, from where he practised medicine in the service of the Majoreros, always free of charge, out of a sense of vocation.
La Ampuyenta Hospital
A distinguished building comprising three interconnected wings, which represented a significant architectural innovation; its construction, promoted by Doctor Mena a few years before his death, spanned three decades.
House of Fray Andresito
The humble little house where the Franciscan friar Andrés Filomeno García Acosta and some of his relatives lived in the first half of the 19th century, and which now houses a shrine in honour of the friar.
