Climb to the summit of La Atalayita

The settlement of La Atalayita is located in the Pozo Negro valley, in the east of Fuerteventura. This archaeological site dates back to the time of the island’s indigenous people, known as the ‘Mahos’ or ‘Majos’. Today, the Interpretation Centre allows visitors to explore buildings that are over six centuries old. It is fascinating to learn about the history of this settlement, which served as a night-time refuge, shelter from the elements and a hideout against attacks. We recommend climbing to the top to take in the extraordinary panoramic view of this settlement.

Exhibition area to learn about its history

La Atalayita offers 1,200 m² of authentic history. A vast area comprising more than 115 structures, as well as an exhibition area where visitors can learn about how life unfolded in the settlement throughout history. It is recommended that you pick up one of the leaflets available on site, which identify and explain the different types of buildings you will be visiting; these are very useful when touring the settlement and help you understand its history in depth.
