Gran Tarajal
An urban beach and an authentic town
Gran Tarajal is the main town in the municipality of Tuineje, in the south-central part of the island, and is renowned for having the best urban beach on Fuerteventura: a dark-sand beach over a kilometre long, awarded the Blue Flag. It offers a pleasant stroll along a magnificent seafront promenade where you can enjoy local cuisine, ending at the marina. The town of Gran Tarajal is more a place for locals than for tourists, and is renowned for its authenticity and community spirit, which is reflected in the town’s décor through large murals, or in the organisation of interesting events.
Events of interest to tourists
It is a good idea to check dates before visiting this town, as it hosts several of Fuerteventura’s most interesting events every year. Highlights include, in September, the TRAN TRAN Masoreta International Clown Festival and the International Deep-Sea Fishing Championship; in October, the live re-enactment of the battles of Tamasite and El Cuchillete, declared of National Tourist Interest; and in November, the Arena Negra music festival, amongst others.
