A fishing and surfing village

The village of El Cotillo, in the north-west of Fuerteventura, has historically been a fishing village. Although it has seen a resurgence in popularity as a tourist destination in recent decades, it has managed to retain its seafaring character. Indeed, water sports are one of its main attractions, with numerous establishments and schools offering surfing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and the latest discipline to gain popularity, wing foiling. From El Cotillo, it is very easy to reach a wide variety of spots to practise each of these sports, whether to the south of the town, on the east coast past the Tostón Lighthouse, towards the north coast, or to enjoy sailing in the tranquillity of its natural lagoons.

Sampling the seafood cuisine: an almost unmissable experience

Around the Muellito de El Cotillo and the Muelle de Los Pescadores, a wide variety of restaurants specialising in seafood has sprung up in recent years, offering different takes on seafood cuisine, both traditional and avant-garde, at very affordable prices. Strolling through the town’s old quarter to sample these delicacies whilst enjoying the sunset is an almost unmissable experience after a good surfing session.
