Sotavento Beach – Windsurfing

Sotavento Beach – Windsurfing

A perfect destination for both beginners and experienced windsurfers, with consistent winds and a lively sporting atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the sea.

An ideal spot on Fuerteventura for beginners to windsurfing

Sotavento Beach, in the south-east of Fuerteventura, is one of the best windsurfing spots in the Canary Islands due to the variety it offers for all levels. Very close to Costa Calma, it has a very safe area for beginners and another very close to the main break, with strong winds and ideal for more advanced windsurfers. Sotavento Beach is famous for hosting the Windsurfing & Kiteboarding World Championship, which takes place here every summer.

Surfing atmosphere next to the Costa Calma windsurfing centre

The most consistent winds at this spot blow during the summer: these are the north-easterly winds, which can exceed 50 knots. The seabed is sandy and the wave usually breaks left very close to the shore. The atmosphere on the wide Sotavento Beach is very sporty thanks to the René Egli windsurfing centre and the beach bars, where many surfers recharge their batteries after a session.
