Morro Velosa Viewpoint
A natural viewpoint on the west coast of Fuerteventura
Located in the central-western region of the island of Fuerteventura, near the town of Betancuria, the Morro Velosa viewpoint offers a chance to enjoy the splendid features of the eastern sky over the Canary Islands. From Mount Tegú, at an altitude of 669 metres, this natural vantage point on the island offers a superb location free from light pollution and has a car park. For visits of astronomical interest, it is recommended that you bring warm clothing and food.
Searching for the newborn stars of M52, near Cassiopeia
At Morro Velosa, looking north-west in the late summer months, a double V clearly hangs above the horizon in the early evening: this is the constellation of Cassiopeia, one of the most distinctive in the northern hemisphere. Not far away is the constellation of Ursa Minor, with Polaris pointing north. The band of stars of the Milky Way crosses the sky. Between Cassiopeia and Cepheus lies the beautiful cluster of newborn stars known as M52, which is visible through binoculars as a small cluster of stars.
