Malpaís de la Arena Natural Monument

This volcanic landscape, with its unique rock formations and rich flora, offers visitors a breathtaking natural experience and an ideal setting for exploration.

Malpaís de la Arena Natural Monument

The Malpaís de La Arena Natural Monument is situated in the centre of the municipality of La Oliva. This beautiful Natural Monument was formed approximately ten thousand years ago as a result of one of the last volcanic eruptions on the island of Fuerteventura. Since the formation of this stunning landscape, with its great beauty and unusual shapes, it has remained virtually untouched by human hands; and it is precisely for this reason that Malpaís de La Arena is home to some of the finest populations of tabaiba, tarabilla, gorse and lichens in the Canary Islands. In Malpaís, you can also see the La Arena Volcano, which stands at around 420 metres and is the highest point of this stunning natural monument.
